Which driver's license documents do I need for my trip?

For most international travel, especially if you want to rent a vehicle, you need a valid driver's license. In many countries, especially in the USA, the EU card driver's license is required - the old paper driver's license is often not accepted. Additionally, we recommend an International Driver's License for many destinations, which serves as an official translation of your national driver's license.

Please note:

• Check at least 8 weeks before departure if you have a current EU card driver's license
• If necessary, apply for the conversion of your old paper driver's license in good time
• You can obtain an International Driver's License from your local driver's license office or from the ADAC
• The International Driver's License is only valid in conjunction with your national driver's license
