Is Your Phone eSIM Compatible?

For any further information or support requests, this page has been designed exclusively for Tourlane customers.

Key Points

  • Your phone must support eSIM technology and be carrier unlocked.
  • Most iPhones from XR (2018) onwards and most flagship Android phones from 2020 onwards support eSIM.
  • Phones purchased in Mainland China generally do NOT support eSIM.

Requirements

To use the Tourlane eSIM, your phone must meet both conditions:

  • eSIM hardware support — Your phone has a built-in eSIM chip.
  • Carrier unlocked — Your phone is not restricted to a single mobile provider.

How to check for eSIM support

iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > General > About.
  2. Look for a field labelled EID. If you see a 32-digit number, your phone supports eSIM.
  3. While there, check Carrier Lock — it should say "No SIM restrictions."

Alternatively:

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
  2. If you see Add eSIM, your phone supports it.

Android (Samsung)

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager.
  2. If you see Add eSIM, your phone supports it.

Android (Google Pixel)

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs.
  2. Tap + and look for "Download a SIM instead?"

Android (other brands)

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Dial *#06#.
  3. Look for a 32-digit EID number. If it appears, your phone supports eSIM.

Is your phone carrier-locked?

A carrier-locked phone only works with the mobile provider it was sold through. If your phone is locked, the eSIM installation will fail.

How to check

iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock. It should say "No SIM restrictions."

Android: Insert a SIM from a different carrier. If you see "SIM not supported" or "Network unlock code required," your phone is locked.

How to unlock

Contact the carrier your phone was originally purchased from. Most carriers will unlock the phone if:

  • The phone is fully paid off
  • It has been active on their network for 60-90 days
  • You are the original owner
