What is an eSIM?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM that is already built into most modern smartphones. Instead of inserting a plastic SIM card, you activate the eSIM by scanning a QR code. Your phone can use both your regular SIM card and the eSIM at the same time — so you keep your phone number for calls and texts while using the eSIM for internet.
What does the Tourlane eSIM include?
Your eSIM provides unlimited high-speed mobile data in the countries you are visiting. It is included in your travel package at no additional cost and is provided through Tourlane's partnership with Firsty.
- The eSIM is active for the duration of your booked trip (validity dates are shown on your voucher).
- It provides unlimited data with high-speed access.
- It works across the countries covered by your itinerary.
- There are no roaming charges — the data is included.
Important limitations
- One eSIM per booking. Regardless of how many people are travelling, your booking includes one eSIM. If multiple travellers need data, others can use the connected phone as a WiFi hotspot, or purchase their own plans via the Firsty app.
- One device only. Once the eSIM is installed on a phone, it cannot be moved to a different phone. Choose which device to install it on before scanning the QR code.
- Data only — no phone calls or SMS. To make calls, use apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Skype over the eSIM's data connection. Keep your regular SIM for traditional calls, SMS, and emergency numbers.
- Not available on all bookings. Only bookings created after the September 2025 launch that included the eSIM option qualify. The eSIM cannot be added retroactively. Check your travel link and the Tourlane app to confirm.
What do I need to do after installation?
Scanning the QR code installs the eSIM, but your phone will not connect automatically. You must:
- Set the eSIM as your preferred mobile data line
- Enable Data Roaming on the eSIM line

Do I need an app?
No. You do not need to download or use the Firsty app. Everything is handled through the QR code and your phone's built-in settings.
