What should I do in case of an accident with the rental car?

If you have an accident with your rental car, you should follow these steps:

Immediate actions:

  • Secure the accident site (set up warning triangle, turn on hazard lights)
  • If there are injuries: Provide first aid and call emergency services
  • Contact police – even for minor accidents to get an official report
  • Inform the emergency number of the rental car provider (you can find this in the rental contract, in the vehicle documents and in your rental car documents)

Documentation:

  • Complete the accident report form provided by the rental car company
  • Take photos of all involved vehicles, damages, and the accident site
  • Note contact details of all parties involved and witnesses
  • Obtain police report and/or case number
  • Do not admit fault or sign documents you don't understand

Important contacts:

  • The 24-hour emergency number of the rental car provider
  • Tourlane emergency number (available in the app and in your travel visualization from 14 days before departure)
  • Local emergency numbers: Police, ambulance

After the accident:

  • Discuss the next steps with the rental car partner (replacement vehicle, towing)
  • Keep all receipts and documents
  • Inform Tourlane about the incident

Please inform us about the accident, either when you need our support or after the situation has been resolved on site. By letting us know, we can provide optimal support during your trip and help with any follow-up issues.
