My luggage was damaged during the flight. What can I do?

When luggage is damaged, quick action is important. Follow these steps:

At the airport (immediately after arrival):

  • Report the damage immediately at the airline's Lost & Found counter
  • Fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) there
  • Get a copy of the report
  • Take photos of the damage
  • Collect all relevant documents (boarding pass, luggage tag)

After leaving the airport:

  • Submit a written damage report to the airline within 7 days
  • Include copies of all documents and photos
  • Keep the damaged luggage until the case is closed
  • Save receipts for any necessary repairs or replacement purchases

Please note:

The liability for luggage damage lies primarily with the airline

Check your travel insurance as well, if applicable

Important: The 7-day reporting deadline is binding. Late reports are typically no longer accepted by most airlines.
